Armed with old Leicas and twin-lens Rolleis stolen from various family members, Will started snapping photos in high school, focusing on the characters and environments behind the bourgeoning San Francisco skate and graffiti movements of the late 80s. Following his passion for snowboarding, Will's free spirit then beckoned him to the majestic wild of Lake Tahoe, which highly influenced his early work. Maintaining his devotion to capturing the people and places inspiring his life, he sharpened his focus and began documenting fellow athletes in the professional snowboarding circuit. A "fortuitous" injury pulled Will from his addiction to riding snow every day, and launched his photographic hobby into a career in the exploding snow sport industry of the mid-90s. In the years following, Will jetted from Tahoe to New Zealand to everywhere in between, shooting for the major snow sport labels and magazines.
After almost a decade in the snow, Will decided to hang up his jackets and beanies, pull out his dusty shorts and flip-flops, and head for Santa Barbara to hone his skills at the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography. The school offered not only world-class technical training, but also the mentorship of many gifted artists that still influence his style today. Will graduated with a digital photography degree and received the school's highest honors in 2001.
He found his education transformational and, upon moving back to his hometown of San Francisco, began building his career and signature style, mainly training his lens on top fashion models and personalities. He has contributed to advertising and editorial campaigns worldwide, being called upon for his unique eye, attention to detail, and his efficient yet relaxed shooting style.
The eternal itinerant soul, Will recently moved his studio to Los Angeles, where he's devouring the Southern California lifestyle again, exploring the myriad talent and locations that abound in this diverse melting pot. Much of his creative inspiration stems from the colorful cultures and societies that he encounters on his frequent travels. Recently, a portrait Will composed in the souks of Marrakesh, Morocco, was awarded the grand prize in an international contest sponsored by Scion and Riottt.com, culminating in a billboard on LA's famous Melrose Avenue.
